This Privacy Policy explains how Daris (โ€œweโ€, โ€œusโ€) collects, uses, and safeguards your personal information when you use our 1:1 video-lessons marketplace. By using Daris you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide and information generated as you use the service:

  • Account details โ€” your name, email address, password (stored hashed), and whether you are a student or teacher.
  • Profile information โ€” for teachers, this includes your bio, subjects, hourly rate, currency, availability, and any documents you upload for verification.
  • Booking and lesson data โ€” the lessons you book or teach, their times, statuses, and prices.
  • Payment information โ€” handled by our payment processor; we store only references and amounts, never full card details (see Section 4).
  • Technical data โ€” log data and your selected display currency, stored in a cookie on your device.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the marketplace โ€” matching students and teachers and running lessons.
  • Process payments to teachers and refunds to students.
  • Send transactional notifications about bookings, lessons, and your account.
  • Verify teacher identity and keep the platform safe.
  • Maintain, secure, and improve the service.

3. Video lessons

Live lessons run over a third-party video provider (LiveKit). Audio and video are streamed in real time between participants. Daris does not record lessons.

4. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. Card and bank details are collected and stored by Stripe under their own privacy terms; Daris never receives or stores your full payment credentials. Teachers receive payouts through Stripe Connect and provide their payout details directly to Stripe.

5. Email

Transactional emails (booking confirmations, lesson reminders, account notices) are sent through our email provider (Resend). We do not sell your email address or use it for third-party marketing.

6. Sharing your information

We share information only as needed to run the service: with the other party to a booking (for example, a teacher sees the student who booked them), with the processors named above (Stripe, LiveKit, Resend), and where required by law. We do not sell your personal data.

7. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account at any time from your account settings. When you do, we anonymise your personal information and remove your credentials, uploaded documents, and notifications, while retaining the minimal records required to preserve the integrity of past transactions and to meet legal obligations.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, use your account settings or contact us at the address below.

9. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies that are necessary for the service to function, including a session cookie to keep you signed in and a preference cookie that remembers your selected display currency. We do not use advertising cookies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the โ€œLast updatedโ€ date above. Significant changes will be communicated through the service.
